Introducing a new puppy to a puppy
Hi! My partner and I have a 12 week old female red cattle dog and just yesterday we picked up our second puppy (male westhighland white terrier) Our Cattle dog is overwhelmed and excited and keeps jumping, snapping and pawing at our new Westie. The Westie defends himself but I am worried the attention he is getting from our cattle dog is too stressful for the 8 week old westie. Do you have any advice on how to handle the two pups and do you have any ideas as to when she might calm down and get used to him? Any information or some pointers would be greatly appreciated!

Answer: introducing a new puppy to a puppy
A 8 week old pup need lots of rest time, and so does a 12 week old pup! It's important to offer lots of regular nap times and I would suggest you look in to crate training. A crate for each pup. There's is stack of info re crate training on the net. Each crate would be a sanctuary for each pup and a spot they love to be and have some alone time. Also remember to spend one on one time with each pup as they must respect you as the master of their domain and also get in to training as soon as possible. I am sure within time your Cattle dog will settle although you may need to intervene from time to time.
