neglected mini foxi cross who has very long nails

advice wanted! Sarina Qld
I have just taken over ownership of a neglected mini foxi cross who has very long nails. She doesn't wear her nails down and they are growing increasingly longer. We snip off a very small amount of nail at a time(as directed by the vet) but they seem to grow just as fast. How often can I trim her nails? They also seem very dry and have some cracks. She also has some rotten teeth and some missing teeth and I am wondering if this has been because of bad diet. Could you please let me know what you think is a healthy diet to feed and some tips for the nails. Thanks

Hi Sarina! Foxies to have rather long nails, you can literally take off as much as you can, when ever you can, with out getting the quick. If your little one stands with all four paws on the floor, you want to achieve a length that keeps the nails from hitting the ground. Tooth / gum disease lead to kidney problems or vicer versa. You may like to boost the vitamins and minerals in her diet. You should be able to get some supplements from a good pet shop. Also invest in a good quality dry food. If you do notice any problems with her rear end, you may like to chat to your vet as there may be some issues with the kidney. Brisket bones from the butcher are great toothbrushes for doggy teeth!
