stressed dog

all her life our dog has come camping with us. but the last two times she gets really stressed in the car, she paces, pants so much she spits everywhere and shakes. i believe she has bad memories of when we went to adelaide in the car and back. it was a stressfull journey as we had only two days to do it in. is there anyway you know of to make her normal again? thanks.. amanda and shadow.

Hi Amanda and Shadow! You need to re-program Shadow to remember how much fun the car is! Firstly, start of with small trips ? preferably to a dog park! Once you reach a destination make sure she is offered a drink of water, is able to have a walk / run (hence the dog park location) and then head home. So for each trip, make sure she gets some joy out of it. I wonder if your short trip to Adelaide was a stressful one for you too? Very possibly she is reflecting the mood of that trip, so it is important for you to remain emotion-less during future car trips. If you don?t stress, she should very quickly relax. Good luck!
