Dog Ear Cleaning

What is the best way to clean my 3 month old jack russell puppy's ears. After rolling around in the dirt i want to make sure he doesnt get an ear infection etc. Also he is terrified of having a bath? Any ideas on how to make him more comfortable? Any advice would be great. Thanks

Answer: Dog Ear Cleaning
When we first adopted Jimbo he HATED being washed or having his ears done. They key is to make it lots of fun. Lots of treats, lots of tickles and praise. I prefer to use "Leo" ear cleaner. You can purchase it from most vets. You can directly squirt the solution in to the ear canal or soak a cotton wool ball in it. If you 'squirt' it, remember less is better and to massage the lower ear to ensure it is evenly dispersed (you may here a squishy noise), then carefully use the cotton wool ball to wipe out ear wax and excess solution. Most of my dogs enjoy this process, unless they do have a ear infection - it shouldn't hurt them. Make bathing as fun as possible, jump in to your bath with him, lots of warm water, treats, a nice soft brush etc. I don't know of any dog that actually enjoys having a bath, but they can learn to grin and bare it.
